Artificial Fermentation
A Playform Studio Exhibition by Andrew Tricaso
Inspired by the relationship between fermentation and artificial intelligence, digital artist Andrew Tricaso presents Artificial Fermentation, exclusively on OpenSea. Created using Playform AI, the artist inputted a selection of street/fashion photographs from a 90’s Japanese Magazine called “Fruits,” and found that the process of creating works with AI were adjacent to cultivating and fermenting. “Fermentation, at its simplest level, is the creation of something new from existing material” says the artist, “and that’s exactly how this project was made.” A significant factor within the fermentation process is sealing off the product from the remaining environment, “and the idea of cultivating something and then letting nature do the rest is similar to the AI creation process as well,” says Tricaso, “but instead of nature doing the work, it’s the machine learning your inputs.” Artificial Fermentation will be available on OpenSea as 10 select NFT works. Once collected, the NFT will unlock a limited GIF.

About Andrew Tricaso
Andrew Tricaso is an interdisciplinary artist based in Chicago. His work favors interpretation over explanation. Through video, photography, collage, painting, graphic design and sound, Tricaso explores what he sees around him and what is organically expressed through experimentation. Tricaso’s work can be psychedelic, abstract and colorful but he does not like to limit himself to any particular style. Originally from Akron, Ohio Andrew moved to Chicago in 2014 to attend Columbia College Chicago where he received a degree in Cinema Arts & Science. While attending school, Tricaso began to explore other ways of expression including music, painting, collage and graphic design. The last several years Tricaso has worked to find his voice as an artist. He has released 3 experimental ambient albums since 2018 under the name “Dog Does Tricks” and has made album artwork for artists like Harris Cole, Allem Iversom, Hue Honey, ASO and SwuM. Most recently Tricaso has begun to experiment with AI in his work. In December 2020 he released a collaboration with Chicago artist Zafro. The song “Ethereal” was accompanied by a music video created using found footage and Playfrom AI. In Spring 2021 Tricaso was featured with 3 pieces in Playform’s “AI Dreams of Web 3.0” NFT exhibition.
